Questions to Ask Luxury Cruise Travel Agents
Find out who really knows the luxury lines.
Talk to a Luxury Cruise ConsultantQuestions to Ask Luxury Cruise Travel Agents
Many luxury cruise travel agents sell every kind of cruise; fewer know the luxury lines from the inside. The questions below help you find out which kind you are talking to, before you hand over a deposit.
About Their Luxury Experience
- Which luxury lines have you sailed yourself, and which ships?
- Which lines do you book most often — and which would you steer me away from for my trip, and why?
- Have you completed any training or specialist programmes with the lines you are recommending?
- Who looks after my booking day to day, and who covers when you are away?
About Your Booking
- Why does this ship suit me better than the alternatives you considered?
- Is this suite a guarantee or a named suite, and what is above and below it?
- Which promotions or amenities apply to this sailing, and can I have them in writing?
- What is included in the fare, and what will I pay for on board?
- When is final payment due, and what are the cancellation penalties after that?
- What insurance would you recommend, and from which company?
What the Best Luxury Cruise Travel Agents Have in Common
We will not rank individual agencies, and you should be wary of anyone who claims to be “the best.” But the best luxury cruise travel agents tend to share some habits: they listen more than they talk in the first conversation, they know the ships well enough to name a weakness, they quote the whole trip rather than just the fare, and they stay in touch after you book.
They also tell you when a luxury line is not the right answer. Sometimes a suite on a bigger ship, or a different region entirely, suits a traveller better — and saying so builds trust.

Red Flags When Choosing an Agent
- A recommendation offered before you have been asked a single question about how you travel.
- Promises of an upgrade, a “guaranteed lowest price” or an amenity that cannot be shown in writing.
- Pressure to pay a deposit today, without time to read the terms.
- Vague answers about what the fare includes or what happens if you cancel.
- No clear contact for help once you are travelling.
None of these means an agent is dishonest, but each is a reason to ask more questions before you commit. Good luxury cruise travel agents welcome questions; they know an informed client is a happier one.
